Being a millennial, my first sight of catsuits was while watching DC movies, and since the era flipped, it’s no longer restricted to super heroes. I don’t know how I feel about it. One part, I’m thrilled to see its significance in fashion and on the other hand, pop culture figures are embracing it on Instagram. Looks like the catsuit is a mainstay in celebrity closets, with styles ranging from lace and shimmer to solid colours and checks.
Emerging as one of the boldest trends of the year, the catsuit is a revealing one-piece outfit, without explicitly being so. Women who wear it are clad in lycra from neck to toe, with the fabric hugging their curves. Just FYI, the catsuit evolved from the athletic leotard and celebrities have been pulling it off since Catwoman made her comic debut in 1940 or Grace Kelly first appeared on screen in 1955 (in To Catch a Thief).
Eventually in the nineties, legendary fashion designers including Thierry Mugler brought the catsuit to the runway and today, we see a comeback on Instagram feeds and celebrity closets.
Alongside slip dresses and biker shorts, catsuits are making a corner in Kylie Jenner’s walk-in closet. She’s seen sporting a few looks, including some that reveal her baby bump.

Half-sister, Kim Kardashian is also donning the catsuit trend especially in fits from her favourite, Balenciaga.
Our pick from her wardrobe: A pop pink lace-y catsuit (This surprisingly isn’t a Balenci)
Dua Lipa is a queen of trends. No reservations, whatever’s popular on TikTok is seen in the Brit singer’s gallery. She’s experimental and ready to take risks with cut outs.
Our pick from her wardrobe: A black catsuit with linear cut outs and detachable sleeves
You must’ve heard of Beyoncé’s Ivy Park X Adidas campaign? Seen promoting looks for the collab, she’s currently obsessed with houndstooth checks.
Our pick from her wardrobe: A black and white catsuit (Don’t miss the shoulder pads and choker neck)
OTT seems to fit the bill for Cardi B. Add two to whatever’s popular and you’ll find her wearing it.
Our pick from her wardrobe: A checked shimmery catsuit with front buttons and pockets!!
And even after such stunning inspiration, if you’re afraid to find confidence, here’s what you can do: Wear a basic leotard with cargo pants.
